Library Fellowship Program/Assistant Librarian
Located in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell University is a bold, innovative, inclusive and dynamic teaching and research university where staff, faculty, and students alike are challenged to make an enduring contribution to the betterment of humanity.
Library Fellowship Program 2007-2008
Cornell University Library seeks two recent MLS graduates who are energetic, self-directed individuals interested in academic librarianship as a career for a two-year appointment as a Library Fellow. The program will provide the Library Fellows unique opportunities to learn in a challenging academic library environment through working in one or more functional areas, by exploring new information technologies, and collaborating on a project.
A flexible program for each Fellow will be developed to balance individual goals and interests with the Cornell Library’s needs for new initiatives. In addition, the Fellow’s professional interests will be supported with conference travel funding, a mentoring program, specialized training, continuing education, and library committees. The Library Fellow will be eligible for regular continuing appointments that may arise in the Cornell University Library.
The Cornell University Library is committed to diversity and is actively seeking to increase representation from diverse backgrounds in all areas of the library. African American, Latino/Hispanic American, and Native American candidates are encouraged to apply. See http://www.library.cornell.edu/diversity for information about library projects that address the needs of diverse students and staff.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a recent graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience and interest in emerging library technologies are strongly desired.
Salary and Benefits
Appointments will be at the level of Assistant Librarian with full benefits, including 22 vacation days, 11 paid holidays, health insurance, life insurance and university retirement contributions
(TIAA-CREF and other options).
