Reference Librarian
The Southern Vermont College Library in Bennington, VT is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Reference Librarian. This position is the primary contact for students and faculty seeking library services and information. The ability to engage a diverse student body is essential.
Duties:
Provide reference assistance to students, faculty and staff within the
library and via other media. Create and maintain paper and electronic research aids for students and faculty. Coordinate and carry out exchange of materials through interlibrary loan. The Reference Librarian shares responsibility for all other aspects of library work including library instruction, computer lab supervision, cataloging, collection development, subscriptions management, AV set-up and trouble-shooting, and work-study supervision. Experience with cataloging and circulation software is required; Microsoft Access and Excel familiarity is preferred. Some early evening hours will be required during the semester.
Qualifications:
ALA accredited MLS or working toward a degree in library science with
appropriate work experience.
Southern Vermont College is a small, private, career-oriented, liberal arts college located in historic Bennington, Vermont. Central to the College is its mission which “begins with a deep belief in the potential of every individual.” The College student body is comprised of 60 percent first-generation college students, 25+ percent nontraditional students, 12 percent students with identified learning disabilities, and 12 percent students of color. Nearly half of the student body lives in campus housing, and one-quarter participate in at least one NCAA sport.
The library supports the career-oriented liberal arts focused curriculum of the College by providing access to print, non-print, and electronic information resources and services and by teaching information literacy skills for lifelong learning. Resources include a growing book collection, subscriptions to print and electronic periodicals, newspapers and serials as well as varied online databases.
