Position Description
Egon Zehnder International, Inc., is seeking a Research Analyst for its Boston office. The Research Analyst performs financial and business trend analysis, producing research findings in response to specific assignments and business development projects. Research Analysts have a high degree of responsibility and control over their research projects and are encouraged to think through assignments creatively. Additionally, they take on important roles in the firm’s business development and internal knowledge-building initiatives.
Research Analysts enjoy the benefits of working in an entrepreneurial environment at a global firm with access to senior partners and consultants in Boston and other American and international offices. New hires receive researcher training with their international colleagues and at the start work on a variety of search assignments and projects in diverse industries that include financial services, consumer products, and life sciences.
Later in their careers, Research Analysts often concentrate on certain industries or types of searches and become Research Associates, a role that brings increased interaction with clients. Many Research Analysts also go to MBA programs and then take jobs at investment banks, strategy consulting firms, and corporate human resources departments of Fortune 500 companies.
Sizes of projects vary. Some projects target a narrowly defined business problem in a given sector, while other projects address much larger business needs and require creative thinking in examining and drawing conclusions from large amounts of information. Projects fit into three areas: search assignments, business development, and knowledge management.
Search assignment execution
- Analyst provides direct support on assignments, searching, identifying, and verifying work statuses of search candidates, compiling search target lists, updating candidate information, and providing status updates during a search.
- On a search assignment, the Analyst works in a team with Consultants, Research Associates, Research Principals, and Knowledge Managers, attending meetings and calls related to the assignment and presenting his or her findings to the team.
Business Development
- Analyst assists in the production of the firm’s marketing presentations by organizing and updating company, people, and market profiles.
- Analyst also monitors market developments, and alerts colleagues of relevant market moves and changes that highlight potential business development opportunities.
Knowledge Management
- Analyst increases the firm’s knowledge base by proactively capturing relevant information from external and internal sources and integrating it into the firm’s database, updating the database with accurate and current data.
- Besides updating existing knowledge, Analyst also conducts knowledge-building research for practice groups and the firm as a whole on long-term projects, in which he or she works closely with Consultants and Knowledge Managers.
Qualification Profile
A background in business, either through course work or previous
employment, as well as strong analytical, communication, and writing
skills are necessary. Previous experience in a research capacity and
computer savvy is a plus. Minimum GPA required is a 3.3.
The Research Analyst should be disciplined and results-oriented with a strong work ethic and accustomed to working with tight deadlines. This individual should enjoy working collaboratively on teams and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
