Library Assistant I - 40 hours per week
Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Access Services, the Library Assistant I will work in the Public Service Desk area of the library. The Public Service Desk serves as a ready reference, informational, and educational gateway to library services and resources. The position involves customer service and knowledge of policies, curriculum, research interests, technology, and patron population. Staff provide assistance to patrons for access to resources, basic reference, and circulation. Displaying an interest in people, being approachable, having good communication, listening/inquiring skills, and being able to offer informal instruction are an integral part of the Public Service Desk. Staff in this area of responsibility utilize electronic databases, physical resources, the Web, and the circulation and OPAC modules of the library’s integrated library system.
Requirements
- Associates Degree required.
- At least three years related experience; library experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of current computer technologies in libraries preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and to contribute positively to a collegial team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work a varied schedule: days, nights, weekend.
