Applications Specialist (Contract), Library and Technology Services, Brandeis University

Brandeis University, a private research university in the metropolitan Boston area, seeks an enthusiastic and service-oriented Applications Specialist to serve as a member of the Web and Library Application Services (WALAS) team. The WALAS team is part of the larger Library and Technology Services (LTS) organization. LTS encompasses the functions traditionally separated into Library Services and IT services, and leverages the strengths of each to provide high quality, accessible, and reliable systems and services to support learning and research activities, operational decision-making, planning, and analysis. The Applications Specialist position is a 6-12 month contract position, eligible for renewal, requiring 25-35 hours per week.

Responsibilities The Applications Specialist focuses on day to day operational administration and support of Library systems and applications including the: Integrated Library System, OpenURL link resolution system for E-resources, Federated Searching Applications for E-Resources, Digital Asset Management System, Inter-Library Loan system and others. The Applications Specialist coordinates and applies software patches, updates and maintains new and on-going data feeds and loads. The Applications Specialist provides application level support for campus-wide applications via email, phone, and face-to-face with application users.

Qualifications Technical proficiency with Unix/Linux, Windows XP, and desktop applications. Familiarity with relational databases and database back-ended applications. Strong troubleshooting skills, creative and analytical approach to problem-solving, and a demonstrated service orientation. Strong interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both highly technical and non-technical colleagues. Bachelor’s degree preferred; 1 to 3 years of relevant experience required. Familiarity with library software, resources and business processes a plus.
