Weekend Supervisor/Library Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:
Working at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Gutman Library. The Weekend Supervisor/ Library Assistant reports to Head of Access Services.

Responsible for supervising library operations on weekends.
Organizes workflow, directs services of Circulation department.
Supervises and assists with training of assistants.
Communicates library policies and procedures about collections to library users.
Makes judgments regarding exceptions to policy and the security and safety of patrons.
Resolves patron concerns and problems.
Provides circulation and reserve desk assistance, including charging, discharging and renewing books, handling book reservations and search requests,and maintaining and processing related records and statistics.
Responsible for opening and closing the library and building security.
May provide basic reference and research assistance.
Performs related duties as required.

Part-time schedule: Sat 9-7, Sun 12-9, 3 additional hours to be arranged with candidate. Summer and intersession hours are arranged within library operating hours in accordance with department needs.

Required Education, Skills and Experience:
Required: previous library or related work experience required; supervisory experience required, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, familiar with MS Word,Windows, WWW, on-line catalogs and research resources. Preferred: College degree
