Position: Technical Services Librarian
Company: Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP
Location: Boston, MA

Choate <http://www.choate.com/home.php> , one of the nation’s leading law firms for over a century, is currently seeking a Technical Services Librarian. The Technical Services Librarian provides leadership, coordination and administration of all technical services operations and procedures.

Duties:

  • Manages and executes all technical service functions and procedures including acquisitions, cataloging, processing and serials control.
  • Manages and maintains the automated and integrated library systems and other applications that support library services.
  • Maintains an accurate and current record of the library collection.
  • Maintains ILS statistics and produces related management reports.
  • Maintains current awareness of new products, developments and standards in technical services and library technology.
  • Investigates, evaluates and implements improvements to technical services operations on an ongoing basis.
  • Works to identify and maximize available ILS utilities to provide statistics, uninterrupted service and the latest enhancements.
  • Creates documentation and instructs staff on automated systems, new technology and technical service procedures.
  • Facilitates access to electronic resources, including password maintenance.
  • Develops and executes custom procedures and reports as requested.
  • Performs other library duties and participates in special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • MLS from ALA-accredited library school.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years technical services experience.
  • Experience with managing integrated library systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AACR2R, MARC format, LCSH, LC classification, authority control and bibliographic utilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in library automation technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly, prioritize and manage tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, professional environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, efficiency and thoroughness.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; displays good judgment in decision-making and project management.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to train and work effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong commitment to superior customer service.
  • Advanced proficiency in Windows applications, Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Desirable:

  • Relevant experience in a law library.
  • Formal coursework in library/information technology.
  • Knowledge of HTML, web development and web authoring tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have physical ability and dexterity to operate equipment such as a computer, copy machine and telephone, including the physical ability to reach varying heights of shelving in order to retrieve and shelve library materials, push loaded book carts, lift and carry heavy boxes and library materials.
