Emerging Technologies Librarian

Towson University seeks an innovative and dynamic Emerging Technologies Librarian who will have leadership responsibility for the technology initiatives and electronic services in the research, reference and instruction programs of the library. This librarian will: serve as the department’s web master; create, coordinate and facilitate the use of online instructional materials, tutorials and other digital learning objects; investigate, incorporate and deploy innovative technologies in library reference services, including wikis, podcasting, RSS feeds, social networking programs, and Web 2.0 technologies. This librarian will also serve as liaison and subject specialist for assigned disciplines; provide library instruction, research assistance and reference services to students, faculty, members of the university community, and to the community at large.

This is a 12-month library faculty position on the permanent status track. Librarians are expected to progress successfully along the promotion and permanent status track and participate fully as members of the library faculty. Appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian I or II, depending on qualifications. Salary ranges are competitive.

Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited institution. Proficiency with a range of web authoring tools; experience creating and using social networking software, building dynamic web pages and integrating multimedia content into web pages; ability to plan and implement innovative electronic services. Strong commitment to information literacy, public service and support of the academic and research needs of students and faculty. Ability to work in a collaborative environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must meet requirements for appointment at the rank of Librarian I or Librarian II, including professional activities, research, publications, and library teaching.
