The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art
Paid Summer Internships

Located on a 66-acre estate on Sarasota Bay, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art was established in 1927 as the legacy of John Ringling (1866-1936) and his wife, Mable (1875 to 1929). Recognized as the official State Art Museum of Florida, the Museum of Art offers 21 galleries of European paintings as well as Cypriot antiquities, Asian Art, American paintings, and contemporary art.

The estate features the spectacular Cà d’Zan (“House of John”), a waterfront mansion that was restored in 2002. The Circus Museums, including the Tibbals Learning Center, display the world’s largest miniature circus, costumes, wagons, performance equipment, and other artifacts chronicling the history of the Circus.

The Internship Program introduces graduate students to the intricacies of a major museum complex. It provides insight into museum careers through practical work experience not available in most academic settings. Interns participate in daily operations of specific museum departments and have the opportunity to attend museum tours with curators, board meetings, lectures, exhibition openings, and departmental orientations.

Positions for 2008 are in the Art Library, Asian Art, Education, Marketing, Technology Integration, and The Historic Asolo Theatre. The internship consists of eight, 40-hour weeks from June 12 - August 1, 2008 (except in Education which is ten-weeks from May 30 - August 7, 2008). Interns earn $11.25 per hour (less taxes) and are paid bi-weekly. Interns are responsible for their housing (the Museum will assist with locating nearby rentals).

Candidates must be current graduate students or accepted into a graduate program at the time of the internship. The Museum encourages students from all backgrounds to apply and is committed to a culturally diverse internship group.

To apply, submit an application, a letter of interest, an official academic transcript(s), two letters of recommendation from current or former professors, and a résumé or CV. All materials must be received by February 15, 2008. International students must have a current US Visa and be eligible to work in the US. The positions require finger printing.
