BRIDGEWATER STATE COLLEGE - TECHNICAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN Requisition #0684)
This is a full-time, twelve month, tenure track position. Rank is commensurate with experience. This is an Exempt position which falls within the MSCA Union (Massachusetts State College Association).
Responsibilities:
As the head of the Library’s Technical Services unit, the Technical
Services librarian provides leadership and guidance, supervises library assistants and student workers, manages unit work flows (cataloging, metadata application, database maintenance, and technical processing), sets priorities, develops policies and procedures with colleagues and staff, uses expertise and knowledge to ensure quality control and best practices, performs original cataloging and complex copy cataloging in all formats. Communicates effectively with other library units about policies, practices, and national trends effecting technical services processes. In conjunction with the Acquisitions/Collection Development librarian, recommends purchasing decisions for all types of research and classroom support materials. In conjunction with the Digital Services librarian, develops metadata standards and processes for applying schema and standards to an array of digital objects.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of cataloging standards, database management, and use of
technology in a technical services library environment. Knowledge of
cataloging operations for all formats, LC and Dewey classification
schemes, authority and subject heading systems, and the use of
bibliographic utilities. Personnel management and supervision
experience. Strong problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, and team-building skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities. Ability to collaborate with faculty, librarians, staff, students and administrators. Ability to think strategically and set priorities. Three years of professional technical services experience in an academic, large public or special library. Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program.
Preferred Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate degree in social, life or physical sciences
