Archives Assistant - Boston, MA

The City of Boston Archives and Records Management Division (the “City Archives”) requires labor on a contract basis to assist with the processing of permanent / historic City records. Working under the supervision of the Deputy Archivist, the contractor will assist archivists in the arrangement and description of collections. Work will include the unfolding, cleaning, and re-housing, of material, physical arrangement, data entry and research.

The City Archives seeks persons with knowledge of the basic concepts for the management of historical records. Students/graduates of MLIS archives administration programs are encouraged to apply. Selections will be made on a combined basis of qualifications and experience. Those with experience in archival processing will be given preference.

The hourly rate will be $15.00. The work is expected to begin in February 2008 and terminate on or before 30 June 2008, with the possibility of renewal on July 1 for fiscal year 2009. The contractor may work a minimum of 14 and maximum of 35 hours per week within normal business hours, as per negotiated arrangement.

The City Archives will furnish all supplies.
