Catalog Maintenance Librarian, Center for Jewish History - New York, NY

Position: Catalog Maintenance Librarian.
This is a grant-funded position that is full-time for 18 months (1 year and 6 months).

Project: The Center for Jewish History, a consortium of five partners with archival, library and museum collections, is embarking on an upgrade of CJH’s integrated library/archives system. Our ALEPH ILS will be upgraded to a higher version to accommodate new cataloging work and enhance current functionalities. Part of the project also will include cleanup of existing data in the system.

Duties: Assist our Director of Library Systems and IT team with the ALEPH technical upgrade. Generate local documentation for functionality in the new system. Work with our team to train staff on the new version as required. Work with bibliographic and authority records to standardize subject headings in CJH’s ALEPH ILS. Assist the CJH Director of Library Systems with retrospective conversion projects and records cleanup. May also assist the Director of Library Systems with ALEPH staff support. This position reports to the CJH Director of Library Systems.

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited school. Two years experience working with an integrated library system. Experience doing authority control work and familiarity with LC‘s Authorities database. Ability to train staff in the use of Library of Congress Subject Headings. Must be able to work well in a team setting, as well as work independently as required. Good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience cataloging in ALEPH. Demonstrated ability to work with library systems. Familiarity with technical configuration work in a library system.

Salary: $44,000
