Due to a retirement, the Baker Free Library is currently seeking a dynamic innovative library director to manage the operations, services and resources of the library. Applications for this position will be accepted until the position is filled. The position will be available March 31, 2008.
In September of 1999 the first floor of the ‘67 addition was demolished to make way for the current addition and renovation of the original building. Dennis Mires, P.A., The Architects of Manchester, NH, designed the expansion plan which expanded the library square footage by 5,200 feet for a total of 9,333 square feet.
Bow is a town of about 8,400 residents, located in central New Hampshire.
Location: 5 miles south of Concord,12 miles north of Manchester, 68 miles north of Boston, MA.
Director supervises a support staff of ten which includes the custodian.
Starting salary: $45K – 55K plus benefits.
Hours: 40 per week, including some evening.
Minimum qualifications: Completion of a Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution plus at least three years of progressively responsible public library experience, including staff supervision, working directly with the public, budgetary experience and working with governing boards or bodies.
Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Library Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the operations of the Library and the development and implementation of its service program, including:
Assisting the Board with long-range planning and policy development.
Managing all library resources, including human resources.
Organizing the acquisitions, access, storage, and control of collections.
Overseeing the designing and implementing of services and programs for users of all ages.
Overseeing the maintenance and safety of the physical plant.
Hiring and supervising all assistants, substitutes, the custodian and volunteers who work in the library.
