TITLE: Physical Sciences Librarian, Research and Instructional Services, Rutgers University Libraries

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rutgers University Libraries seek an outstanding Physical Sciences Librarian to serve as liaison to the departments of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, and Geology on the New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus. Working closely with departmental faculty as well as colleagues in the New Brunswick, Newark and Camden libraries, the Physical Sciences Librarian will be responsible for collection development of online and print resources to support the research and educational missions of the Rutgers Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, and Geology communities. Candidate should have knowledge of current and emerging technologies and the ability to apply these technologies to a diverse range of library applications. The candidate should have a strong public service commitment and the ability to work collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a variety of instructional activities (general, subject-specific and advanced), as well as provide reference services (including digital/virtual). Candidate would be encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in digital initiatives. This is a tenure-track appointment. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility including publications, presentations and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations. The position includes occasional evening and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution or the equivalent is required as is a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science. Working knowledge of and experience with SciFinder Scholar and Beilstein is required as well as experience with chemical structure searching. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a collegial environment. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.
