RESPONSIBILITIES: The Rutgers University Libraries seek an outstanding individual to serve as a liaison to the interdisciplinary departments of Environmental Sciences and Marine and Coastal Studies of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This individual will be responsible for developing digital and print collections, providing leadership in developing an interdisciplinary approach to advocate for and support emerging trends and technologies in scholarly communication, collaboration, and research productivity in the sciences, and will also coordinate library instruction in the sciences. Based at the Library of Science and Medicine in Piscataway, this candidate will work closely with departmental faculty as well as with colleagues in the Rutgers University Library system. All librarians are expected to participate in developing and delivering both general and specialized reference and instruction and other users services programs, and to contribute to the libraries’ digital initiatives.

This is a tenure-track appointment. The individual will participate in faculty governance, serving on library and university-wide committees. The successful candidate should demonstrate commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility including publications, presentations and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution is required and an advanced relevant science degree is highly desirable. Experience with the latest Web technologies and knowledge of current scholarly communication trends in the sciences are required. At least one year of professional experience, including collection development, reference and instruction, is preferred. The successful candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a collegial environment.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

STATUS/BENEFITS: Faculty status, calendar year appointment, retirement plans, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental and vision plans, tuition remission, one month vacation.

LIBRARY PROFILE: The Rutgers University Libraries (RUL), comprised of libraries on the University’s Camden, New Brunswick and Newark Campuses, all reporting to the University Librarian, operate as a unified library system with coordinated public services, technical services, and collection development. The Library holdings include more than 3 million volumes with a staff of 304 and a budget of $21 million. Rutgers University is a member of the Association of American Universities. The New Brunswick campus, the largest of Rutgers’ three regional campuses, supports over 33,000 graduate and undergraduate students, in approximately 100 undergraduate programs, more than 80 graduate/professional programs, and over 60 doctoral programs as a Carnegie classification, Research I campus. The fourteen libraries in New Brunswick/Piscataway provide services and support for the university’s research and instructional activities in the humanities, social sciences, and science/technology.
