Part-time Photo Archives Assistant, Congregational Library, Boston

12-15 hours per week
The Photo Archives Assistant of the Congregational Library and Archive works under the direction and in collaboration with the Executive Director, Librarian, and Archivist with responsibilities in the Archives and Rare Book Collection and other associated activities of the library.
Responsibilities
- Organizes and catalogs photographic and other image collections
- Reviews and scans material (documents and images) into digital format, applies metadata, uploads digital objects to web site and/or online catalog
- Provides reference assistance and instruction to a wide variety of researchers, on and off site, which includes scholars, students, clergy, and members of the public
- Responsible for reading room when on the reference desk
- Assists Executive Director and/or Librarian and/or Archivist with special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Must be available beginning May 2008
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- One year of experience working in an archive, or current graduate student in Library Science program, concentrating in archives
- Knowledge of and experience with digitization of images
- Course work in or experience with photographic collections desirable
- Excellent technical skills including: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & Access) and online catalog systems
- Ability to work independently and as team member
- Ability to handle and transport standard records storage containers as well as oversized bound and flat documents that weigh up to forty (40) pounds
- Background, course work, and/or major in religion/theology/history desirable
Hourly rate: $12.00
