SUMMARY: To provide functional and inviting libraries that support school curriculum and recreational reading; to inform teachers, students, and parents of available library resources and learning tools; and to work with support staff to deliver library curriculum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the efforts of five elementary school libraries.
- Support school-based library aides in the application of skills necessary to maintain a library.
- Select and order materials appropriate to student and staff instructional needs.
- Implement and apply electronic systems for instruction, research and management.
- Circulate materials to students and teachers, and prepare and distribute lists for overdue, damaged and lost books, and maintain circulation records.
- Manage the evaluation, acquisition, and processing of books, materials and equipment for the library.
- Maintain materials by repairing damaged books, selecting books and periodicals for bindery, and discarding materials that are no longer useable.
- Conduct an annual inventory of books, materials, and equipment.
- Provide individual assistance in book selection as well as library enrichment.
- Teach library skills consistent with curriculum and assist with research on individual and group projects.
- Instruct staff and students on location and use of library materials and equipment.
- Support teachers in curriculum and lesson plan development, and keep them aware of available correlated library materials.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility by attending workshops, conferences, and in-service sessions, as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science, preferred; and three years teaching experience.
- Ability to operate computer software and hardware for retrieval and dissemination of information and management of library materials.
- Ability to operate automation and circulation systems.
- Certification as a Library Media Specialist.
