- Evening Library Assistant
Start up culinary school seeks organized, energetic library school student/s with excellent user service skills to staff reference desk and manage the library evenings and/or Saturdays.
Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Boston is a new branch campus of an established proprietary company providing associates level technical education. Students undertake an intense one year program of classroom and kitchen study. School is in the historic Athenaeum Press Building in East Cambridge, five blocks from the Kendall Square Red Line stop and ten blocks from the Lechmere Green Line stop.
Skills and experience needed - Excellent user service skills, willing and able to explain and teach students general research skills, library use, database use and computer use. Strong commitment to good user service and information access required. Knowledge of food and cooking is helpful, or interest and willingness to learn. MLS or current enrollment in library school or coursework in library science preferred.
Library reference experience helpful. Some public service experience required, preferably in a library setting. Some teaching or instruction experience preferred, preferably in a library setting. Knowledge of library circulation systems helpful, basic cataloging skills helpful. Ability to troubleshoot computers a plus. Must be comfortable managing the library alone and serving a diverse student population.
Duties include - Reporting to the Head Librarian. Staffing the reference desk and managing the library alone evenings and/or Saturdays. Assisting in coordinating peer tutoring program, assisting with cataloging. Shelving books, providing stack maintenance, closing the library.
Hours - Monday through Friday evenings and/or Saturday 10am to 2pm. Possibility of job share between two people with 10 to 15 hours per person.
