The National Center for Jewish Film (NCJF) is a unique nonprofit motion picture archive, distributor, and resource center housing the largest, most comprehensive collection of Jewish-theme film and video in the world.

The mission of NCJF is to gather, preserve, and exhibit films with artistic and educational value relevant to the Jewish experience, disseminating these materials to the widest possible audience. Founded in 1976, NCJF became an independent non-profit organization in 1979. The Center is located on the campus of Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

The NCJF archive exclusively owns an estimated 10,000 reels of film and video. This ever-expanding collection of feature films, documentaries, shorts, newsreels, home movies, and institutional films includes material dating from 1903 to the present. These films address a wide range of topics, including: the Jewish immigrant experience in America, Yiddish theater and cinema, Jewish communities around the world, the Holocaust, women’s issues, Judaism and the arts, relations between Jews and other ethnic groups, Sephardic culture, Israeli history, and Hollywood portrayals of Jewish life. NCJF holds the largest collection of Yiddish feature films in the world and has long been recognized as a leader in the revival of Yiddish cinema.

In addition to its vital and active film preservation and restoration work, NCJF’s activities include: producing public programs and film festivals, providing programming, consultation, and research assistance to approximately 2000 individuals and institutions a year; furnishing research materials and stock footage to filmmakers, researchers, and educators; and representing 108 independent filmmakers by distributing their productions. Through its extensive distribution and access programs, the Center fosters cultural, artistic, and educational programming worldwide.
