Duties: Plans and directs need of general library, legal collection and related program activities by applying standard library procedures and ACA standards to ensure adequate access to and utilization of library’s resources; maintains a separate collection of books to support the recreational reading and information needs of the minimum library; provides library services upon request to minimum inmates; selects and purchases books, periodicals and other library materials through use of standard professional selection source and needs assessments to develop and maintain a collection relevant to inmates’ needs, interest and abilities; organizes a system for storage and retrieval of materials by coordinating the acquisition, cataloging, processing and circulation of all materials to ensure the information, educational and recreational needs of the inmates are met; formulates library policy through coordination with departmental and institutional policies, ACA standards, regulations and schedules to ensure an adequate level of service and compliance with statutory requirements; supervises inmate library assistants by assigning duties, job description, scheduling, training, evaluating, and maintaining payrolls for inmate clerks assigned to the library in order to met adequate staffing levels; directs reference and information services, reader guidance and special programming by responding to individual request and coordinating with departmental heads to serve the needs of the institution and inmates; controls the maintenance of the library collection and services by making budgetary recommendations, writing quarterly and annual reports, writing grant proposals and evaluations and keeping informed of outside sources of funds in order to provide for continued collection growth and development; coordinates with other institutions, public, academic and special libraries by written or verbal communication, inter-library loans and shared program ideas in order to increase the institution’s sources of books and information; maintains professional proficiency in library meetings, workshops, conferences or seminars sponsored by professional library schools on local state or regional and national levels to ensure that the services offered are of the best quality. Maintains the Staff Resource Center at Bridgewater State Hospital. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications: MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: At least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a Professional Librarian.

LICENSES:
Certification as a Professional Librarian by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or the equivalent from another state.
Preferred Qualifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Follett Library software. Experience in a correctional setting or with a confined population; familiarity with legal reference and law library materials; experience in a one person library
