Basic Requirements:

  • This position requires Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • A minimum of two years of providing reference service and instruction in an academic library, particularly in the field of engineering.
  • The selected candidate must possess experience with Web 2.0 tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Dreamweaver and other web authoring tools.
  • Subject knowledge of business resources is a must.
  • Familiarity with the concepts, goals, and methods of information literacy is essential.
  • The selected candidate should also possess: strong user-centered philosophy;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; strong interpersonal and outreach skills; effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or a second Master’s in an Engineering or scientific field or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with bibliographic citation software (RefWorks and EndNote) is valuable.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Must work reference desk one evening per week from 6-10 p.m.; must be flexible and teach occasional early morning and evening library instruction classes.

DUTIES: The Reference and Collections department in Tisch Library seeks an individual with expertise in emerging technologies and their relevance to the work of the reference and collections department to fill its available Engineering/Technology /Business Reference and Instruction Librarian position.

The Engineering/Technology /Business Reference and Instruction Librarian is the primary reference and instruction librarian for the School of Engineering, which offers undergrad and grad degrees in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management. He/she:

  • Provides subject expertise in business to support the business component of classes in the School of Engineering and the School of Arts and Sciences;
  • Provides leadership to the department on Web 2.0 tools, such as blogs, wikis, and podcasts, and other emerging technologies;
  • Works closely with the library’s Information Technology unit to integrate these technologies into departmental work;
  • Coordinates library instruction for RefWorks and EndNote;
  • Provides service on the Tisch reference desk, including one evening per week;
  • Collaborates with the science and engineering bibliographer in resource development;
