PT Library Assistant--Cataloger, Congregational Library & Archive, Boston

Part-time 15-18 hours per week
The Library Assistant – Cataloger of the Congregational Library and Archive works under the direction and in collaboration with the Executive Director, Librarian, and Archivist with responsibilities in the cataloging functions and other associated activities of the library.
Cataloging
- Completes copy cataloging of new and other assigned material
- Edits catalog records in library’s automated system
- Creates original catalog record as necessary
- Creates copies, volume, item records
- Files/checks and corrects filing in shelflist
Other functions
- Responsible for reading room when on the reference desk
- Assists with acquisition of books
- Carries out related duties as required (bulk mailings, etc.)
- Assists in data entry and database projects
- Assists Executive Director and/or Librarian and/or Archivist with special projects as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- One-three years experience working in a library or research setting, or current graduate student in Library Science program
- Ability to work independently and as team member
- Strong technical skills including: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & Access or comparable database program), scanning/digitization and online catalog systems
- Advanced organizational and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Strong oral & written communication skills
- Background and/or interest in religion/theology/history desirable
Hourly rate: $12.00
Must be available to begin late July/early August
