Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited M.L.S., or equivalent.
  • Broad experience with a wide variety of print and electronic reference materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing web pages, and designing print and web-based instruction materials.
  • Experience with current instructional technologies, including online tutorials.
  • Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills; demonstrated initiative in outreach activities.
  • Enthusiasm for library public services and information literacy.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Minimum of two years of current professional experience in academic library reference services.
  • Experience in and commitment to working in a multiracial, multicultural environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience and experience in providing library services to distant learners preferred.
  • Course management software and remote presentation experience preferred.

DUTIES: The Distance Learning Librarian will provide leadership, direction, planning, and assessment for creative and effective library support of SSC’s distance education program. The Librarian will provide reference service in a cooperative centralized reference environment, as well as specialized reference services for students and faculty in assigned academic areas. The Distance Learning Librarian will deliver library instruction sessions, create instructional materials, and develop the library’s collections in assigned fields. The incumbent will share in general library instruction and information literacy initiatives and participate in the evening and weekend reference rotation.
