Development Assistant, Research - MFA, Boston, MA

Under the direction of the Director of Development Research, will support prospect identification and research efforts of the MFA’s Development Department within the context of a $500 million comprehensive campaign.

DUTIES:

  • Carry-out donor research at the direction of the Director of Development Research, using online and paper-based resources, in-house records, and communication with development staff.
  • Draft biographical, financial and philanthropic briefings on donors and prospective donors for staff and volunteers in support of solicitation efforts.
  • Respond to inquiries of fundraising staff to support ongoing front-line cultivation, qualification and identification efforts as directed.
  • Participate in ongoing initiatives to identify new donor prospects, including the routine screening of newspapers and business and art-related periodicals, and printed annual and donor reports, as directed.
  • Provide regular updates on relevant news as necessary.
  • Assist in the collection, maintenance and inventory of information, resources and records for the Development department (including Central Files, Resource Library, and prospect database).
  • Filing and data entry as directed.
  • Attend prospect review meetings with Leadership Gift and Annual Programs staff, and in External Relations and Museum-wide staff meetings as appropriate.
  • Keep current with Museum-wide activities and developments, and with the progress of annual and capital fundraising initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and prior research experience preferred.
  • 1-3 years experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and appearance of written materials vital.
  • Comfort with learning and utilizing databases and online tools.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment while still producing quality work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • A high level of respect for confidentiality and ethical practices.
