Library Intern

The Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) seeks an intern to assist with the ongoing development and maintenance of the Library collection. The general scope of duties includes assistance in registration and recording of library acquisitions.

Responsibilities:
*Specifically, the intern will be asked to enter each new book’s formatted information into the computer, assign numbers, catalog, create bookplates and maintain ALMA’s collection of photographs, posters, maps, and a/v materials. In addition, minimal administrative tasks will be expected, such as sending acknowledgements to donors and filing the paperwork related to new library acquisitions.

Qualifications:
*Energetic, communicative, creative and highly organized individuals with great attention to detail should apply. Library majors are preferred. Knowledge of Armenian is a plus but not required. Prior familiarity with Library of Congress database will be helpful.

Time commitment:
*Part-time work 10-15 hrs for 3 days a week preferably 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Internship Dates:
*Summer/Fall Internship Dates: September 4 -December 14, 2008
*Winter/Spring internship dates: January 15 -June 15, 2009

Deadline: Internship available immediately!

Please note that the internship is renewable on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation: Unpaid (Can arrange to provide college credit)

Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) is a national repository of Armenian artifacts, objects, artwork, manuscripts and publications that illustrate the history and culture of the Armenian people. The Museum is home for more than 20,000 artifacts, 5,000 coins, 3,000 textile items, and 200 Armenian Rugs. The Library collection is comprised of more than 27,000 books on Armenian heritage, history and culture, 930 rare books and old manuscripts, and 800 oral histories.
