Teen Services Library Assistant
(Part Time 25 hours/week)
The City of Westbrook is seeking an experienced and highly motivated paraprofessional to staff and assist with collection development, services, programming, appearance and displays for the Teen Services area of the City’s public library, Walker Memorial Library.
Originally constructed in 1894, with an addition built in 1989 which just underwent a major renovation, Walker Memorial Library is a wonderful blend of the community’s history and renewal. The Library houses over 50,000 volumes, a sizable Reference Collection, a Local History Room, a Children’s Room, new Teen Services and Audio/Visual areas, and offers a wide variety of adult and children’s programming to its 3,000 registered borrowers.
The Teen Services Assistant assists in enhancement of services to the community through cooperative efforts with local schools, agencies, the Teen Center, Recreation Center and the Warren Memorial Library to create and provide innovative programming to the teen population. The Teen Services Assistant works along with the Children’s Assistant under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Librarian.
The ideal candidate will: hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis on communications, technology, child development or other degree work that supports the requirements of the position.
The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of library experience and/or experience working with teens and have experience working in other service areas, including circulation, reference and cataloging; possess well developed leadership, communication, interpersonal, collaboration, problem-solving and technology skills; and be highly focused on establishing a welcoming and customer service oriented environment.
This Part Time (25 hrs per week) opportunity offers a competitive wage ($13.82/hr - $18.35/hr) and generous benefits package that includes: Health & Dental Insurance; Paid Vacation, Sick, & Holiday Time; and Retirement Benefits. This is a Teamster Local Union No 340 General Unit position.
