Dear Students:
There are two courses at GSLIS West (Mount Holyoke College) which require some explanation. LIS 415-20BL, Information Organization, and LIS 407-20BL, Reference/Information Services, are blended courses. These two courses are partly face-to-face and partly online. They are the result of an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation grant for blended courses which was awarded to Simmons College and GSLIS.
See http://www.simmons.edu/about/news/releases/2008/663.php for further details about the grant.
The two blended courses are scheduled for Fall 08 on Saturday morning in the 9:15 - 12:15 time slot at the Mount Holyoke College campus, and can be taken in the same time. The face-to-face class sessions do not conflict, so it is possible to sign up for both courses, and meet during the Saturday morning time slot. (That said, during the registration process, AARC sometimes sees this as a conflict — if you run into that situation, please send a message to gslisreg@simmons.edu with your name, student id #, and a message indicating that is the problem. We will be able to help you resolve the conflict.)
Additionally, a free shuttle van to the Mount Holyoke campus will be available to Boston campus students who are taking one of these, or any of the other, GSLIS West classes. More info is available at: http://my.simmons.edu/gslis/archives/2008/07/fall_08_shuttle.shtml
If you’d like more information about these courses, please contact Terry Plum, Assistant Dean, at terry.plum@simmons.edu.
Thank you!
