Reference/Adult Services Librarian
Forbush Memorial Library
Town of Westminster, MA

The Forbush Memorial Library is undergoing renovations which should be completed before Christmas. Library operations have been relocated temporarily to a site off Rt. 2 at 100 Simplex Drive, Westminster, MA.

DUTIES

Reporting to the director, the successful candidate for this 35-hour a week, benefited position is responsible for technical and direct service work relating to the planning, execution, and coordination of adult reference and other adult services at the public library plus other tasks as required. The job involves responsibility for references services, some collection development and maintenance, working at the public service desk, planning and implementing adult programming, cooperating with all members of the staff to deliver excellent customer service, and training members of the public and staff about searching databases. May involve some original cataloging, supervision of volunteers, and library’s webpage maintenance. Attendance at continuing education classes/workshops and working some evenings and rotating Saturdays required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: MLS or advanced courses in library science preferred. Bachelor’s degree with two or more years of reference experience required.

Special requirements: Must hold a MA Class D motor vehicle operator’s license (or be able to obtain transportation as required) and pass a satisfactory CORI check.

Knowledge, ability, and skills: Must have working knowledge of library best practices, theory, and organizations. Must be able to multitask, to work cooperatively with the library public, staff and volunteers, to work with automated library systems, and to maintain confidentiality. Enough physical ability is required to be able to sit, stand, move about, and lift 50 lbs. Vision requirements include ability (with focus) for close, distance, and depth perception. Familiarity with Millennium, a strong customer service attitude, a sense of humor and the ability to be diplomatic and flexible are highly desirable.

SALARY: $15.07-$18.55/hour
