Registration for New and Incoming Students

Dear Students,
I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer so far. This is a note regarding Fall 08 classes and this week’s registration for new and incoming students.
This week, our new summer and incoming fall students are registering for fall classes. (Welcome!) Many of you have worked with your advisors on a course of study. As you register, you may find yourself up against some waitlisted or closed out courses. The first thing I’d like to say about those is — don’t panic!
As fall approaches — even into the first week of school — the enrollments on these classes tends to change quite a bit and, even if you find yourself on the waitlist, you may see your status change fairly quickly. Or not so quickly, but change nevertheless.
Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. Should you find yourself in that situation, I’ve made a quick list of classes that have no pre-requisites and still have room in them. I have not listed any classes that are connected to the Archives concentration (note - LIS 531N is specifically designed for those who are interested in Archives but not in pursuing the full concentration) or to the School Library Teacher Program.
LIS 450 - Organization and Management of Public Libraries (Wednesdays, 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.; Sullivan) LIS 475 - Organizational/Information Ethics (Thursdays, 6 - 9 p.m.; Hussey) LIS 493 - Intellectual Freedom (Mondays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; Quilter) LIS 531N - Archives for Librarians (Wednesdays, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.; Webber)
Full course descriptions can be found at: http://my.simmons.edu/gslis/courses/descriptions/ms-electives.shtml
A FEW ADDITIONAL NOTES REGARDING REGISTRATION:
- A “-20” section number denotes GSLIS West classes. Boston campus students are more than welcome to take classes at GSLIS West, but be aware that these are held in South Hadley, MA.
- WISE courses (LIS 544W through LIS 593W) are only for students who have completed 12 credit hours. Although AARC may make it look like there is availability in these classes, registration for them takes place through the WISE consortium and there are no longer seats open for fall.
- New summer and incoming fall students are not eligible for 4-credit sections (those ending with an ‘N’); again, although AARC may make it seem as though there are seats available, that is not the case.
I wish you the best with your registration! Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jen
