Manager of Circulation Services

The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position of Manager of Circulation Services. Under general supervision of the Associate Director for User Services, the Manager of Circulation Services supervises and coordinates the Circulation, Stacks Management, User Billing, and Reserves teams. Circulation Services is responsible for user assistance from the circulation/reserve service desk, book and other circulating material distribution within UMass Amherst Libraries and to and from the Four Colleges, fee billing, and reserves. The Manager of Circulation Services is responsible for monitoring the performance and settings of the Aleph integrated library system circulation/reserves modules and certain Web OPAC functionality, working in collaboration with the UMass Amherst Libraries ILS and Systems Departments staff and the Five College Libraries Aleph Manager to resolve issues with this software, as well as communicating and collaborating with Circulation and Reserves staff in the Four Colleges regarding our shared system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  2. Additional education or experience in project management, management, or information technology preferred.
  3. Minimum of two years of relevant customer service, management, or library experience.
  4. Experience working in a multi-shift, large-department environment.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Office products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  6. Experience in troubleshooting or trouble reporting of software problems.
  7. Experience applying technological tools to solve problems.
  8. Demonstrated supervisory skills and demonstrated experience evaluating and mentoring employees.
  9. Familiarity with the higher education environment and knowledge of library values of freedom of information and user privacy.
  10. Ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change and innovation. Ability to interact effectively and work productively, collegially, cooperatively and collaboratively in planning, organizing and supervising the work of others.
  11. Ability to analyze work processes and plan for applications of technology; ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems; and ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.
  12. Ability and willingness to lead change as needed in the work environment.
  13. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  14. Strong customer service orientation.

HIRING SALARY RANGE $42,300 - $52,900 NORMAL STARTING SALARY RANGE $42,300 - $47,600
PROFESSIONAL STAFF SALARY ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM POSITION LEVEL 27
