SCHOOL LIBRARIAN (Grades 6 - 8)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified as Library Media Specialist, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Education.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Commensurate with Unit A contract.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:
- Be responsible (with involvement of faculty in recommendations) for the selection and processing of all print and non-print materials, computer software, and updating the collection as well as telecommunication needs
- Provide each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will incite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library resources
- Assist faculty in the selection and location of materials and operation of technology as well as training staff who shall assist in this objective
- Advise the school administration concerning the effective supervision, utilization, and maintenance of the library, and developing necessary budgets.
- Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of the technology and library resources
- Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in use of reference materials along with the technology in relation to planned assignments
- Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the library acquires
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools
SALARY: The salary will be in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield Public Schools Unit A salary schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Westfield School Committee’s policy on evaluation.
EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: As soon as possible after appointment.
