Job Title: Library Intern (Part-time)
The Library Intern is responsible for assisting students, faculty and staff with circulation and reference services at the Nathaniel P. Hill Library at St. George’s School in Middletown, RI. This is an 8 month position (10 hours/week) starting the week of October 6, 2008 and ending the week of April 27, 2009 and does not include benefits.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the day to day operations of the Nathaniel P. Hill
Library program
- Promotes effective use of print and electronic library resources to the St. George’s community
- Processes new books and magazines
- Assists with processing of interlibrary loan requests
- Collaborates with other library personnel on special projects including the creation and maintenance of LibGuides and collection development and maintenance projects
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prefer M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. candidate from an ALA-accredited program
- Strong computer skills including working knowledge of automated
circulation systems, electronic databases, and web-based resources
- Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in a busy environment and, at the same time, be able to work independently
- Outstanding organizational, written and communication skills
- Desire to learn new things
- Be an enthusiastic advocate for the library and have an interest in
promoting literacy
- Commitment to customer service including a demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students and faculty, staff and community members
- Willingness to embrace the challenges of working in a boarding school environment
- Ability to work afternoons and some evenings and weekend hours
- Candidate must pass a nationwide criminal record check
- Mustt be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
