The Collections Services Department at the Beatley Library is looking for a student assistant (or two).
Job Title: Acquisitions Student Assistant
No of Openings: 1 or 2
Office hours: M-F, 8:30-4:30
Hours per Week: 9-16
Wage/Salary: $12 per hour
Employment Start Date: 09/04/08
Supervisor: John Rodzvilla/ Terri-Leigh Hinkle
Job Description:
This position will provide support to the Acquisitions team in the Simmons College library. This is a part-time position for someone interested in learning more about a Technical Services department in an academic library.
The hours are flexible, but need to be during our operating hours of 8:30- 4:30, Monday- Friday
The main tasks for this position are:
• Opening boxes containing ordered library materials (some light lifting may be involved)
• Distributing received items to appropriate locations
• Receiving ordered materials via local acquisitions system
• Ordering library materials via bibliographic utility & local acquisitions system
• Processing gifts
• Participation in special projects
• Helping maintain the localize Wiki for the Acquisitions department
Qualifications required:
• GSLIS student
• Detail-oriented
• Strong service attitude
• Computer experience
Qualifications preferred:
• Familiarity with reading OCLC records
• Basic understanding of cataloging concepts and terminology
