The MIT Institute Archives and Special Collections is looking for a responsible and detail oriented person to assist in the transcription of a set of digitized documents from a collection of a noted urban planning study. The materials are to be included in the MIT Libraries? newly established digital repository.

The MIT Institute Archives and Special Collections documents the history of MIT and houses one of the premier collections on the history of science and technology in the United States. The individual(s) will work under the direction of a member of the Archives? staff to improve access to digital collections.

Dates: Fall semester 2008 (two temporary positions available)

Schedule: 10 - 15 hours/week, flexible hours

Compensation: $14/hour

Qualifications:

  • Strong typing skills and grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Excellent organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, exercising initiative and judgment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat required

No transcription experience is required; training will be provided.
