The American Precision Museum, Windsor VT, is housed in the Robbins & Lawrence Armory, a National Historic Landmark, a former gun and machine tool factory that played a significant role in the development of interchangeable parts, resulting in the US becoming a manufacturing leader. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers designated the museum an international mechanical engineering heritage site and collection in 1987. The collections include archives and books in addition to the three dimensional artifacts.
The content areas are machine tools, precision manufacturing, gun-making and more. At present our library and archival collections are not open to the public, and the lack of organization and access tools make the collections difficult to use even by our small staff.
We seek an intern to conduct an inventory and assessment of our book collection, and make recommendations to assist the staff and trustees in determining the appropriateness of being a research library.
The time frame, hours, and compensation are negotiable.
