LIBRARIAN
Adler Pollock & Sheehan P.C. is seeking candidates for the full-time position of Librarian.
SUMMARY
This position, based at our Providence office, provides reference and research services to all AP&S personnel, utilizing a wide array of legal and non-legal information resources in print, non-print, and electronic formats. This position will also be responsible for maintaining and managing the Firm’s OPAC and other modules within SoftLink’s Liberty3 library automation system. This position will work as part of a team comprised of two professional librarians and one library assistant. This position reports to the Manager of Library and Information Resources.
Law firm librarians work in a fast-paced and demanding environment where their work has a direct impact upon the success of businesses, the outcome of court proceedings, and more. The successful candidate will be working in a team-oriented environment where he/she will benefit from the professional staff’s mentoring approach to staff development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
These include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Provide reference and research services.
-Catalog and classify materials for inclusion within OPAC using SoftLink’s Liberty3.
-Assume responsibility for maintaining and managing the OPAC.
-Work with team to implement Liberty3’s other library automation modules.
-Formally and informally teach firm personnel how to use the Library’s resources.
-Organize and update several special collections.
-Create and maintain databases of passwords, distribution lists, etc.
-Participate in collection maintenance activities.
-Occasionally travel to work at Boston office.
-Perform off-site research at other libraries, agencies, etc. as needed.
-Assist the Manager of Library and Information Resources in developing new services.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science.
-Must have successfully completed a Master’s Degree level course in legal bibliography or have obtained its equivalent via working in a law library.
-A minimum of one year of Law Librarian experience is preferred.
-Ability to work in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment.
-Ability to set priorities and multi-task under pressure while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
-Strong customer service skills linked with strong oral and written communications skills.
-Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
-Strong computer and research skills.
-Capability to learn and cost-effectively use dedicated research systems, such as Westlaw, Lexis, and others.
-Be physically able to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities.
-Be cheerful, friendly, outgoing, and creative, yet pragmatic.
