Library Media Para-Professional
Reports to Library Media Specialists, Headmaster
Primary focus:
The primary function of each staff member of the Hapgood Library Media Center at Boston Latin Academy is to provide effective and efficient access to our library media center materials. Fulfilling the information needs of individual students, staff, parents, alumni and other community members will include locating print or non-print library resources and assisting patrons in the use of these resources. These functions will happen within the library media center.
Supplementary to this primary function, each member of the library staff will have a set of responsibilities delineated by a job description. Each of these responsibilities is vital to maintaining the integrity of the library program.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the planning of library media center policies
- Help with circulation and maintenance of the library collection
- Assist BLA community members in accessing library materials
- Assist with the planning for use of LMC hardware and software
- Provide instruction in the use of equipment as requested
- Encourage and facilitate student recreational reading
- Maintain attractive displays to promote library programming
- Perform other duties as assigned or appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with library media center programs
- Experience with using technology to perform clerical functions
- Experience with using computers/technology (digital cameras, scanners, LCD projectors, printers, etc.) in education
- Service-oriented work style
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to arrange a flexible work schedule
Boston Teachers’ Union, contractual hourly rate, $19 - $20.(approx)
