Reporting to the Head, Rare Book Team, the incumbent performs a wide range of bibliographic duties. The primary objective is to do bibliographic searching and copy cataloging of 19th- and 20th-century book material for the Houghton Library. Works with ALEPH to create bibliographic, holdings and item records using MARC21 standards and AACR2 cataloging rules. Searches ALEPH and OCLC for cataloging copy and authority records. Edits HOLLIS records and adds holding and item records. Prepares volumes for end-processing. Works on special cataloging projects. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee must have a high tolerance to library-related allergens. NOTE: This is a one-year term position from date of hire.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years in a library setting required.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Additional Qualifications:
BA strongly preferred. Experience working with automated library system strongly
preferred. Knowledge of AACR2, LC classification and MARC preferred. Reading skills in
one or more European languages desirable. Excellent organizational, management, oral and
written communication skills in English. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
preservation and conservation awareness skills; attention to detail.
