Onsite Services Librarian

The Medical Sciences Library at Texas A&M University Libraries seeks an enthusiastic, innovative and service-oriented individual to provide leadership and direction for all services provided within physical library spaces. This includes direct client services (circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan and basic reference), the onsite collection, and all aspects of the library as a place (planning and design of all user spaces, recommendations for specific service parameters and the relative mix of user and collection spaces). The Onsite Services Librarian plays a key role in the design, development and implementation of onsite services offered by the Medical Sciences Library as well as marketing and promotion of services and monitoring of their success.

This is an academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities including research, publication and service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for tenure and promotion.

Responsibilities: Working under the direction of the Assistant Director of the Medical Sciences Library:

  • Recommend directions for onsite services and space utilization based on user feedback and library strategic initiatives
  • Analyze user feedback on service satisfaction and on the relative importance of various onsite services to inform all onsite services recommendations
  • Work closely with appropriate colleagues to explore and define new services and to enhance existing services
  • Provide leadership and management of the library?s single service point incorporating basic reference, circulation, reserve and interlibrary loan functions and staff
  • Work with Resources Management colleagues to monitor collection use and to maintain a comprehensive collection management plan for onsite collections, offsite storage collections and withdrawal decisions.
  • Publicize and market onsite library services to campus community
  • Work with appropriate colleagues to facilitate the security and maintenance of the building
  • Play a key role in all renovation and space planning
  • Provide onsite and virtual reference and research assistance
  • Serve as a liaison to appropriate user and stakeholder groups

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Master?s degree (or equivalent)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in Circulation, Reserves or Interlibrary loan
  • Evidence of effective collaboration and team membership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to approach issues and solve problems creatively
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population

Preferred:

  • Experience in a health science library environment
  • Knowledge ILLiad, DOCLINE or Ares software
  • Knowledge of medical, veterinary or life sciences literature
  • Knowledge or experience in marketing projects

Environment: The Medical Sciences Library at Texas A&M University Libraries serves the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M Health Sciences Center, and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The library houses a specialized collection of biomedical books, journals, and electronic resources as well as related materials in the areas of agriculture and the life sciences. The Medical Sciences Library’s collection includes over 125,000 volumes of journals and books in print. As one of the Texas A&M University Libraries, the Medical Sciences Library offers 52,000 print and electronic serial titles, more than 400,000 electronic books, and over 700 databases.

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; salary is not less than $45,000.
