Position: Library Media Specialist, Teachers’ Resource Center at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School, Extended Term Substitute, January 25th - May 1st, 2009
Duties: Under supervision of the Library/Media Department Coordinator, the TRC library media specialist will provide services to administrators, teachers, and other staff to support curricular and professional development needs. Some flexibility in determining work schedule hours to accomodate school course times. Areas of focus for 12 week position:
Management/supervision: Maintain a welcoming facility for workshops, individual work and meetings; maintain supplies and instructional materials for teachers; facilitate access to print, video and online resources, computer and multimedia equipment; provide reference services and conduct research for teachers and administrators. Foster collaboration among staff and assist in the implementation of 9-12 learning expectations in content areas through individual and group projects that integrate the use of technology. Supervise fulltime technical assistant and part-time paraprofessional.
Collection Development/Professional Development: Collaborate with Instructional Coaches and Professional Development Teacher Coach to develop, coordinate and facilitate workshops as well as further develop Department-based resource collection.
Requirements: Certified, MLS or School Library certification candidate eligible to be certified, or recently retired high school library media specialist highly desirable; would also consider certified high school teacher with experience in offering professional development . Experience in urban high school setting highly desirable; familiarity with PC and Mac platforms and automated library catalog; strong interpersonal and outreach skills.
