Salary: $20-25/hour

The Medical Communications Specialist, a Library Functional Team member, provides Library and Health Science services to colleagues. The position includes a focus on Knowledge Management initiatives in the role of an Informationalist, and requires working closely with the Publications Planning and other groups across the organization. Responsibilities include acquiring articles through a document delivery services vendor and maintaining a virtual library database of publications which are both searchable and accessible to internal customers in a copyright compliant manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate search strategies and conduct literature searches using various literature search databases.
  • Create and distribute Literature Search Notification Alerts to internal stakeholders.
  • Purchase articles through a Document Delivery Services vendor and distribute obtained publications to internal customers upon request.
  • Determine publication copyright compliant access permissions against the Annual Business License maintained with the Copyright Compliance Center (CCC).
  • Maintain the Medical Communications eLibrary (virtual library), a digital document repository and retrieval system providing a secure environment in which to share resource collections such as full-text articles and abstracts.
  • Maintain Publication Aggregator Accounts and Corporate Journal Subscriptions.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent experience preferred; Undergraduate degree in a health science discipline or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Familiar with a variety of the Library/Health Science Services concepts, practices, and procedures within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Experience with QUOSA Information Manager and Virtual Library, a literature management application which integrates with scientific/medical bibliographic databases and a literature document repository, desired.
  • Able to perform a variety of tasks within a team environment, relying on extensive experience and independent judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Self motivated and reliable, with ability to follow and establish processes and where a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
