The Massachusetts Center for the Book is looking for volunteers to screen the Massachusetts entries to Letters About Literature, a nation-wide, letter-writing contest for 4th through 12th graders. This is a fun volunteer opportunity for those interested in children’s literature and literacy programs!

Screening will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2009 at the Palace Road Building in 2 sessions:

9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

4 volunteers will be needed for each session.

If interested, please email Amanda Bushnell, program coordinator, at bushnell@simmons.edu and be sure to include the session you would prefer to come to. Volunteers will receive a small honorarium.

Letters About Literature (LAL) is a writing competition run by the Center for the Book at the Library of Congress. Students in Grades 4 through 12 write letters addressed to the author of a work that has affected them or challenged them to view themselves and their world differently. Winners at the state level go on to compete for prizes at the national level.
