Dr. Arlene B. Mollo, professor of art education at UMass Dartmouth and Dr. Mary Malloy, maritime studies faculty at SEA Education Association in Woods Hole, MA recently received a grant through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to host a four-week Summer Institute for Teachers called “Maritime America in the Age of Winslow Homer”. The Institute is open to all k-12 teachers.

The Institute presents an interdisciplinary view of history, science, culture, art, and literature, which uses images, objects, historical documents, landscapes, and discussion to create a comprehensive understanding and perspective of the period. There will also be visits to a number of historical sites and superb museums throughout New England.

Teachers in the Institute receive a $3,200 stipend for participating in addition to on-campus housing at UMass Dartmouth. All museum/field trips are at no cost to teachers—travel and fees are paid for by the grant. Other benefits include stellar national faculty and project leaders, CEUs and college credits where applicable.
