The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston Summer 2009 Art Library Intern
Duties/Responsibilities: To organize and plan future usage of the ICA art-reference library.
Under the guidance of the Senior Registrar and Assistant Registrar the Library Intern will be asked to:
- Organize and assess the current state of the ICA library, which consists of ICA-exhibition catalogues, other museum catalogues (US and international), monographs, art theory books and art periodicals - approx 3500 books and 2000 magazines.
- To devise a categorization plan for shelving of books, which needs to include a new section dedicated to artists in the ICA’s permanent collection
- Record the title of each book in a database and stamp with ICA-library stamp.
- To create a plan to manage the library efficiently in the future, especially as there is a need to occasionally dispose of books in favor of new ones (both for space reasons and to reflect the changing nature of contemporary art and the need to include new artists and topics)
Qualifications:
Education:
Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in Library Studies with an interest in visual art, art history or museum studies.
Availability Dates and Terms:
Compensation: This internship is Unpaid
Dates Available:
Late May through August (although this could be considered a longer project as part of a thesis)
College Credit: May be available based on your program of study, and will be determined prior to starting.
Hours: 16-24 hours per week. Days flexible.
