Scholarly Communication Internship with the University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries Summer 2009
The University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries, in partnership with the Simmons Graduate School of Information Studies, offers the opportunity to work with the Scholarly Communication Librarian and the Digital Repository Resident Librarian to further advances in alternative modes of scholarly communication using the ScholarWorks@UMass Amherst digital repository platform http://scholarworks.umass.edu. With Terry Plum as advisor of a for-credit internship, graduate students will gain a semester of experience in this emerging field of librarianship by working closely with the Digital Repository Resident Librarian. Students may choose among the following projects: working with academic liaison librarians exploring new strategies for reference and collection development activity; working with metadata librarians on the backend of the digital repository; or working on outreach and marketing opportunities in collaboration with the Office of Research or the Office of Outreach. New opportunities may arise during the spring so please contact Marilyn Billings, Scholarly Communication Librarian, at mbillings@library.umass.edu to discuss these new prospects or to obtain additional information about the current projects listed above.
Students interested in this opportunity will want to contact Terry Plum to develop a mutually agreeable internship plan in conjunction with the UMass Amherst Scholarly Communication Librarian.
Contact Marilyn Billings, Scholarly Communication Librarian, at mbillings@library.umass.edu for details.
