Straight Ahead Pictures’ mission is to create innovative media projects and education forums that use history to foster community dialogue about contemporary social issues. The Disability History Museum (DHM) is a long-lived online project sponsored by Straight Ahead Pictures. It includes Library Collections, an Education Program, and Museum Features. Becoming Helen Keller is a 90-minute, fully funded, television documentary project scheduled for broadcast in early 2011.

This position is part-time, 24-32 hours weekly, grant funded, and the duration ranges from 8-13 months. Salary, like duration of the job and hours, is negotiable and dependent on experience, but capped by grant funds. No benefits. Some off-site work accommodated. Start date: June 2009.

Responsibilities: Maintain Digital Library collections and catalog new materials (mostly audio-visual) associated with the Becoming Helen Keller project. Revise content in an existing Filemaker database for use by broadcast and education project production teams, work with project team to migrate digital data materials and improve usability. Provide reference help to project content teams–film production and education materials distribution. Supervise data-entry assistants and coordinate with production teams.

Additional hours could be devoted to research, exhibit and outreach materials for film and education products. Training with the project will be available.

Qualifications: MA or graduate level work leading to an advance degree in Library & Information Science, History or Public History, American Studies, Communication/Media Studies or related media-library production experience.

Comfortable with database usage and development (knowledge of Access or Filemaker, HTML, Photoshop, Excel, Flash quite useful) Collaborative team worker Excellent organization skills Excellent online research skills Ability to communicate to both technical and humanities content teams required.
