ASRC Management Services is seeking a Librarian (Taxonomy and Metadata) in Washington, DC to support its Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) contract. This individual will provide support for terminology integration, taxonomy development, web document cataloging functions, assisting in the development and evaluation of taxonomically controlled web content. In addition, this position will provide analysis and consultation for the implementation and integration of taxonomy and controlled terminology requirements within client initiatives for information architecture. The Librarian will serve on a team that provides support for the client in the areas of creating content inventories, taxonomy development and integration, and providing guidance to the client group for the assignment of appropriate metadata to its web content. The Librarian will also have a role in providing support for tracking of the overall IA framework and how specific client offices and programs fit within the overall architecture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support for the Public Access, Intranet Controlled Vocabulary, and other taxonomy/terminology projects, terminology integration, taxonomy development, web document cataloging functions, and assisting in the development and evaluation of taxonomically controlled web content.
Provides analysis and consultation for the implementation and integration of taxonomy and controlled terminology requirements within client initiatives, such as portal development, search services, and content management systems.
Participate as a member of the Librarian team that facilitates developing organization unit level information architecture that is consistent with integration into the overall IA.
Creation of content inventories, supporting creation and management of taxonomy and metadata.
Coordination with web librarians, taxonomy librarian and client information architecture leads to support workgroups in program offices as they apply the developed information architecture.
Supporting the team’s activities for tracking and mapping how client program offices fit into the information architecture.
Reviewing and reporting on project progress.
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum education level - - Master’s degree in library science.
- 2-4 years of professional level experience.
- Knowledge of database management systems, content management systems, search engines, HTML, XML, and related technologies.
- Designing and evaluating organization, navigation, search and controlled vocabulary systems for large complex websites and knowledge systems.
- Experience in preparing analytic reports and statistics, use of applications such as Excel, and development of logical expressions and database queries.
- Demonstrated strong written and oral communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and office applications.
