Position Open: Part Time Middle School Library Assistant
Starting Date: September 2009
Reporting to: Library Director
Department: Middle School Library
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The library assistant provides clerical and administrative support. Under the supervision of the library director, the assistant orders supplies and books, processes new books, and assists with circulation and database maintenance. The assistant helps create displays and provides support as needed for library-based programs such as favorite book surveys, spring author visits and read a thons. The assistant helps students with their reading and research needs. This is a part-time academic year position for 8 hours per week. The schedule is negotiable, but must include 2 – 3 afternoons per week not including Friday, so that the assistant can provide occasional after school library coverage. Library assistant will occasionally serve as back up for after school study hall monitor.
Skills and Competencies
The successful candidate will have education beyond high school, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Library experience and/or training is highly desirable. In addition, the Library Assistant will demonstrate the following competencies:
- Attention to detail
- Computer skills
- The ability to work independently
- Enjoyment of working with students in an educational community
