Title: Project Archivist
Hours/week: Max. 10.
Length: One month.
Salary: $15/hour.
The American Journal of Archaeology (AJA), one of the world’s most distinguished and widely distributed journals for classical archaeology, seeks a temporary archivist to organize and preserve its inventory of approximately 1,500 back issues. The archivist will report to the managing editor of the AJA in Boston. The project is largely self-guided and does not offer academic credit.
Duties include:
- Transferring inventory to archival boxes.
- Ordering appropriate preservation and archival materials as needed.
- Performing basic preservation on older issues.
- Labeling boxes.
- Updating database of inventory.
- Completion of a written report at the end of the project.
Qualifications:
- Currently in, or completed, an ALA-accredited graduate academic program in library or archival science.
- Knowledge of conservation and preservation principles and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to approximately 70 lbs.
- Detail oriented.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel.
- Interest in archaeology helpful.
