GSLIS Gateway: Careers & Jobs

Jobs and Opportunities

There are a variety of different options for GSLIS students preparing for life after (and during) GSLIS. To begin with, Simmons GSLIS students have many pre-professional jobs from which to choose. Most of these jobs are geared towards students with little or no library experience and allow students to experience different jobs in different libraries throughout their Simmons career. Simmons students are highly encouraged to take advantage of such opportunities to gain hands-on experience.

Paper copies of the pre-professional job listings are available in the Student Information Center, located outside of the Matarazzo Student Lounge on the second floor of One Palace Road. To look at the online listings, go to sharklink.simmons.edu, click on "Non student employment jobs", sign in, then click "Jobs" on the menu. (You do need to be a student with a current Simmons login to access the jobs.)

For students who would like to gain a different kind of experience, there are internships, fellowships, and residencies available at external sites to current and graduating students. (These positions do not normally include academic credit.) Our Sources of Aid page includes both links to specific institutions (e.g., the Library of Congress) as well as links to pages that compile listings of grants, fellowships and internships from various sources.

We've also included pages on our Mentoring program, and information from the most recent Salary Survey.

And don't forget to keep an eye on the GSLIS Gateway homepage, my.simmons.edu/gslis/, for the latest announcements relevant to your job search. Here are some of the most recent postings:
